Anxiety symptoms
Anxiety is a normal part of life and actually helps keep us safe but it can become excessive. So many of us struggle with anxiety, myself included, and know that it can be really overwhelming and even stop us from living our normal lives. While there can be many symptoms, some of them are more common than others. People struggling with anxiety often say that they:
Worry a lot about their past or their future and have negative thoughts
Experience physical sensations like tightness in their chest, racing heart and stomach issues, amongst others
Avoid people, places or situations that make them feel anxious
Experience panic attacks or intense fear in seemingly normal situations
Often find themselves feeling frustrated or irritated
Have problems concentrating, “turning their minds off” or sleeping
Feel like they’ve lost control in their lives
If you’re experiencing these symptoms, it may indicate that you’re struggling with anxiety.
I know firsthand how awful anxiety can make you feel. Even if right now you feel like there’s no way out, counselling can help you regain control over your life and find inner calm.
Types of anxiety disorders
Anxiety disorders include a range of conditions that can severely impact your life. Here are four common types of anxiety-related disorders that I can help you with:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
GAD is frequently described as uncontrollable worry about various aspects of life, such as work, health, or finances.
Panic Disorder
Panic disorder involves recurrent, unexpected panic attacks—sudden periods of intense fear or discomfort that peak really fast and make you feel uncomfortable.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
People with OCD struggle with intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviours. Exposure and Response Prevention is a very helpful approach that has helped many of my clients!
Phobias
These are intense fears of various objects or situations that are generally not harmful but are seen by the person as something that needs to be avoided.
It’s important to know that not everybody feeling anxious has an anxiety disorder but that doesn’t make the symptoms any less distressing. I can help you overcome your worry even if you don’t think (or know) that you struggle with a specific anxiety disorder. I specialize in treating all types of anxiety, from mild to the most severe. You don’t have to keep suffering alone – I’m here to help! Read more about anxiety therapy.
How anxiety therapy can help
Anxiety therapy is designed to help you find a way out of your worries. With my help, we’ll work together to identify and change the negative thought patterns and behaviours that cause you to feel anxious and then learn how to eliminate or cope with them. I’ll teach you practical strategies to use when you’re feeling anxious which will lead to you feeling in control of your anxiety and more relaxed overall.
I use different approaches to help my clients overcome anxiety, including CBT, DBT, ACT and Mindfulness as well as others. By using a variety of methods, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of anxiety and learn different skills that you can continue to use in the future when needed.

Take the next step – book a free consultation
I know that selecting a counsellor is not an easy decision. You want to work with someone who you know is knowledgeable, someone you can trust. That’s why I invite you to book a free initial phone consultation.
During this friendly talk, you’ll get to ask all the questions you might have about anxiety therapy and working with me. I’ll be happy to share a bit more about my experience and approach. After this consultation, if you feel like we’re a good fit, we can schedule your first session.
However, there’s no pressure to make any decisions during the consultation. I understand that you may need time to think about things, and that’s totally understandable.
I’m excited to meet you!
